窪做惇蹋 students, recent graduates can find their futures at fall career fairs

The Office of Career Development at 窪做惇蹋 is helping students connect with business and industry leaders and prepare for the future by hosting a trio of fall career fairs at the Clinton campus.
Representatives from more than 100 companies throughout the Southeast are scheduled to participate.
Alyssa Bazile, MC director of career development, said the purpose of the events – “Meet the Firms,” scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 4; the “Fall Job and Grad Fair,” set for Tuesday, Sept. 30; and the “Summer Camp and Ministry Fair,” scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28 – is to provide opportunities for MC students to network with potential employers.
“If students know the career path they wish to take, they can connect with employers to see what opportunities may be available,” Bazile said. “Those who are exploring different careers can connect with a variety of employers and discover what different industries have to offer.
“We encourage students, regardless of the degree they are seeking, to connect with these organizations because you never know where a contact may lead.”
From free resume reviews and printing services to visits to the “Choctaw Career Closet” to help bolster their business attire, MC students can connect with Career Development to provide tools and resources to introduce themselves to potential employers, obtain valuable information and respond effectively to questions.
Career Development has partnered with the MC School of Business to present “Meet the Firms” from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 4 in Alumni Hall. The event provides an opportunity for students to network with representatives of about three dozen professional organizations.
“Our students will be competing with their peers from surrounding institutions to make an impression on these recruiters,” Bazile said. “We tell the students it’s about making a great impression, marketing and branding yourself well, and following up afterwards so the recruiters will remember you.”
She said students should bring their resumes, business cards and LinkedIn addresses to the fair.
While Meet the Firms is geared toward opportunities in business, accounting and finance, Bazile said the Fall Job and Grad Fair, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 30 in Anderson Hall on the second floor of the B.C. Rogers Student Center, includes representatives from a variety of employers, as well as graduate and professional programs. Students in all MC majors and graduate fields are welcome.
“The Fall Job and Grad Fair is the tentpole for several surrounding activities,” Bazile said.
Leading up to the fair, Career Development will offer resume review and printing services, a special “suit-up” from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at JCPenney in Flowood, mock interviews and other instructional events to help students land their first jobs or complete successful graduate school applications.
On Oct. 28, Bazile’s Office will join the Institute for Christian Leadership for a Summer Camp and Ministry Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 28 in Alumni Hall. The event will help students of all majors leverage their summer break by getting involved in ministry.
“In addition to counselor, advisor, lifeguard and worship leader positions at summer camps, students who are interested in ministerial roles can find opportunities as well,” Bazile said.
She encourages all MC students to schedule an appointment with her office to perfect their resumes, craft effective introductory letters and complete employment applications in advance of these events.
“From freshmen to graduate students, from those interested in professional schools to those seeking to change their career paths, these events are for you,” she said.
There is no fee to attend. Current MC students and MC alumni who graduated within the last four years are welcome. Registration is available via Handshake. For more information, visit mc.edu/career/events.
